Press Briefing

Spokesperson and Deputy Minister for Public Affairs Lee Jaewoong

December 31, 2024  14:30  KST

Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.

I have no schedule of the Minister and Vice Ministers to share with you today. Instead, I will talk about one improvement related to Korean passports.

As of today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has put into effect an amendment to its public notice, easing the restrictions on changing Romanized names in passports.

This revision will expand the scope of eligibility for changing Romanized names when the pronunciation of the Korean name differs from that of the Romanized name in the passport. It is expected to alleviate the inconvenience caused by discrepancies between the pronunciation of Korean names and their Romanized versions in passports.

For more details, please refer to the press release issued this morning.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue its efforts to improve passport administrative services with a focus on convenience for citizens.
